There are so many arts and crafts ideas that can help keep your child busy at home. Some of these ideas help the kids to develop other commendable skills. Here are a few simple projects that you and your children can make.
1. DIY Flower Crown
Flowers can brighten up any day. Make flower crowns with real, wild, or artificial flowers—fun for older people (with an adult to supervise with the wire cutters and wire). Begin by measuring the circumference of the individual who will wear the crown’s head. Next, cut a piece of wire 2 inches longer than the measurement and twist the ends together to form a circle. Gather a few blooms (cutting the ends to around 2-inches) and wrap with floral thread. Repeat until you’ve covered the entire wire circle with flower bundles. Attach the bundles to the wire round using floral tape, slightly overlapping to hide the stems.
2. Build Your Own Museum
The San Antonio Museum of Art has started the “Make Your Own Museum” campaign, encouraging parents to inspire their children to create their own home museums. For example, you can make a diorama out of family photos meticulously placed on the walls, handcrafted pottery, or sculptures fashioned from objects discovered around the house, among other things.
3. Daisies with Ribbon and Buttons
These charming DIY flowers, made from grosgrain ribbon and old or new buttons, can be used as napkin rings, or looped around a wrist for a special and sweet bracelet. Suitable for all ages. To make each napkin ring, cut five 3-inch-long strips of 3/8-inch-wide white grosgrain ribbon. To make a floral shape, glue one component on top of the next, offsetting as you go. Attach a yellow button to the middle and a length of green string to the rear for tying.
4. Captain America Outfit
Your child will be well on their way to winning an Oscar for costume design if they put together Captain America outfit. A garment (such as T-shirt and pants), paper plates, red felt, a blue headband, white masking tape, red pen, garbage can lid OR cardboard, red, white, and blue paint, double-sided fabric tape, and scissors are required for the Captain America outfit. Construct the costume while referencing the movie.
5. Embroidery Hoops for Stitched Artwork or Jewelry Holder
Embroidery hoops made of cane webbing can be used to create art by stitching with yarn or hanging earrings. In any case, they’re an excellent project for a rainy day. Suitable for all ages (with an adult to supervise with the needle).
To make: Cut embroidery hoops into rings. Cut caning pieces that are slightly larger than the interior ring, then hot glue them to the ring. If desired, paint the outer ring. When dry, slip over the inside of the ring and tighten. Thread yarn onto a large-eyed needle and stitch the desired pattern. Simply hang or put earrings through the caning holes to serve as a jewelry holder.
